The first two of the 2025 shows are almost upon us., Both kicking off on April 5th. The Penzance Studios Spring Exhibition runs until April 26th and the St. Ives Arts Club Easter Exhibition runs until the 18th. Finishing just in time for Easter to start!
I've entered a mixture of work for the Penzance show at Wharfside Art Hub, so I'm not convinced it will all get in but you need to get the experiments out in the wild. Not that it is easy to get visitors opinions of work during group shows. I will be invigilating on two afternoons at both exhibitions though, so I could interrogate anyone that wanders in during those hours. I'll be at the Wharfside Art Hub on the 7th and 14th between 14.00 - 1 7..00 and at the St. Ives Arts Club on the 9th and 16th between 13.30 - 16.30.

Well, that's not strictly true. I have six group shows lined up this year with another potential five to add to that. But I have been unable to find anywhere to show the new collection of work I am building up. I have failed to get into the three places I have tried so far, either through not being quick enough off the mark or not being drawn out of a hat! I still have some other options to try though. My deconstructed cubes have become six squares of late, but I am now working on some sort of three dimensional pieces at least. The Linden Hall Winter Group Show ended yesterday, so the only place you will find any of my work in the wild at the moment will be the four pieces in Four cocktail bar, Arcade Steps, Penzance. So, these new works. I started off intersecting six squares but using three of one size and three of another. After starting four of these they started to look too busy and created additional squares that I didn't want. So, I reverted to six smaller squares and stopped trying to fill the whole "canvas" [They are on MDF panels] I then started to remove the intersecting areas, thus creating new shapes from the squares. At The same time, I started experimenting with a three dimensional alternative. Mostly made out of bits lying around in the studio. Mostly Styrofoam packaging.
Yikes, it's the 10th already. Too late to say Happy New Year? It's taken me a while to shake off the festive torpor and get creative again. What with one thing and another I didn't manage to make any art in December, although I was in three shows, one of which, The Linden Hall Winter Group Show, has three more weeks to run.
I have six shows, that I will be a part of, lined up so far for 2025; and a further eight that I could also be involved with. One of which I hope will see my deconstructed cube works in one place. I am just starting work on the third collection of these with a series of intersecting squares. These are still two dimensional but another step towards some three dimensional work. As well as being a member of Penzance Studios I have now joined the St Ives Arts Club and become an Associate Member of Penwith Gallery, also In St Ives. There have been a flurry of exhibitions to round off my first 10 months living in Penzance. I can now add the St. Ives Arts Club Festive Exhibition to that list. I will be showing three paintings there from December 21st to January 5th.
I'll be showing a bit of a cross section of work. "Strange Transmission" is an older work but I included it because it has never been exhibited before. "Snapshots of Summer" is an indication of where I am going with newer work, which is all derived from deconstructing and reconstructing the cube and address issues of space and territory. In between those two is number five of a series of 10 pieces called "PZ's of 8" that I made loosely based on observations around Newlyn Harbour. They are, maybe, a response to all of those that asked if I would start painting seascapes once I moved from London to Cornwall. I think the textures from these works will find their way into the de/re-constructed cube works I will being focusing on in 2025. Until then Merry Christmas!. Blimey, it's December already. Now that winter is almost upon us the Penzance Studios Winter Exhibition Is over, but the St Ives Society of Artists Christmas Exhibition continues until the end of the year, I will be at the Linden Hall opening event next Saturday in Deal and I also hope to be part of the St Ives Arts Club Members Festive Exhibition, which runs from December 21st to January 5th.
