In Penzance

14/3/2024

I finally have my Penzance studio in the attic of our new seaside home ready[ish]. We got the keys on February 8th and have been getting rid of the furniture the previous owners left behind, fixing things we were unaware needed fixing and decorating the place ever since. So, you can see why there has been a lack of updates.

I had my first meeting with the PZ Studios group that I joined in January and am happy to know that there will be two group shows coming up this year. I just need to enter a lot of open calls before it's too late and start looking for somewhere to exhibit on my own next. Oh, and distribute the catalogues I picked up at the meeting.

Also, need to learn to stop banging my head on those beams and looking out the window at the sea.

Happy New Year

With the move to Penzance in a month looming I haven't been working on much over the festive period and will be packing my studio here up next week. I have been experimenting with some three dimensional paintings of late though [see below]. I will releasing some digital prints while I am temporarily studioless, the first of which is below, imaginatively titled Square 1. It is 20" x 20" in an edition of 5, with certificate of authenticity.

Last Show Of The Year

I thought I was done for this year but I dropped two pieces off at Woodfield pavilion yesterday for the winter exhibition. It runs from December 6th until January 28th [I think]. The Map Is Not The Territory and Something Hot, both rejected for the Guildford House Open last month, will be gracing the walls along with many other local artists. These will probably be the last pieces I show in London before my move to Cornwall. Not the last time ever though!

Big Quad

I've got a big, approximately 4ft square, piece of wood to paint on, so I've been mocking up some ideas in Photoshop. It's the closest I get to sketching. I've got some smaller works on paper to do in November so not sure if I will start the big one this year or not. And any of these ideas that I don't use I can use for smaller pieces.

Non-Places, series by Steve Wilde
I posted these on here back in August, with the intention of adding more to the series. I haven't done that yet, but I'm pleased to say that these four have all sold in the past week. So thank you, Woodfield Pavilion, the Streatham Festival and The Streatham Wine House, who all had a hand in their sales in one way or another. Maybe I should get another four painted for Christmas! I could have sold the pink one three times over. Amusingly, a smaller version of the pink one was rejected by the RA Summer Exhibition selectors and the other three were rejected by the Marshwood Awards selection committee.
