P[art] Time

Don't seem to be achieving much so far this year. I've posted a couple of detail shots of this piece [14" x 14" acrylic on board] on Instagram but that's all I've been working on. Other than a couple of tiny acrylic doodles and some ideas in Illustrator for the shop. More of that later. Mostly I have been looking for some part-time work. Needs must!

Shot Zero

My obsession with photographing walls started here. In New Orleans. I can't remember what year but I'm guessing about  1998. I uploaded this to flickr in 2004 [shot on an old Pentax SLR and scanned] and noticed it as I downloaded everything from there before closing my account.

Prompted by a suggestion to write an essay on the effects of photography on abstract art while I was studying graphic design my interest in abstract expressionism soon outweighed my interest in design and I started photographing walls with "artistic qualities".

Sexton Sideways

When you want to try to avoid using social media so much, starting selling online is probably not the best idea!

In between attending to digital matters this piece I posted on 27/11 has progressed a bit and I just had a "turn it on its side revelation"! The text [if you can read it at this size] is an Anne Sexton quote;

“I am alone here in my own mind.
There is no map
and there is no road.
It is one of a kind
just as yours is.”

Anyway, this post is just a distraction from doing my Christmas shopping!

Apophenia

Seems an apt title given the connections I draw between random bits of wall; ghost signs, graffiti removal and the general wear and tear of concrete, wood and paintwork. It has certainly fed my Instagram feed and seems to be the direction any painting I do wants to go. So I think I'll just give in and follow it.

I must stop using my phone to photograph these things!

Experiments with Jesmonite... with a run up to Christmas sentiment

Jesmonite mixed with acrylic to create the cracked effect, assuming it stays on the canvas!

Postage Update

Sigh... After a couple of sales I have come to realise that I can't afford to absorb the cost of postage on print sales. Sorry about that.

I've also been asked for bigger prints a couple of times now. I will attempt to shoot any future images at a higher resolution [or shoot walls in smaller parts and stitch them together to overcome my camera's shortcomings!] but for now any images already on sale just won't stand being printed at a larger size.

I have added this image, which is a digital manipulation of RF_0025 and is available as a 36" x 24" limited edition of 10 at £125.00

Scrapping The Gold Leaf Road

After a break from this I've gone off the gold leaf taxi route idea [although you can still see a bit of it at the moment] and think I'll use the "knowledge" idea in another form later. The digital stuff has taken up more time than I'd hoped so it's nice to be painting again.

Brutal Truths

The brutal truth is there aren't enough hours in the day. I've created a separate business account for the Steve Wilde Prints Facebook page which I now need to spend time generating a following as big as my normal account on! And I still can't get why my account isn't eligible for tagging on Instagram either. Anyway I managed to take some screen breaks and make this. Mostly acrylic on canvas with a few charcoal and oil stick embellishments.

More Paint [at last]

Other than promoting the thing I think the Shopify store has stopped dominating my time at last. Started this today. Left, acrylic base colours. Right, first layers of oil [base colours again], some gold leaf [not that you can tell from this shot] and textural scratches. This has to build up until the gold leaf is the thinnest of lines showing through a crack in the surface.

Finally got the Shopify store live. See the link, top right. I also have it linked to Facebook page and am trying to get it connected to Instagram, not so successfully. Consequently nothing else of any artistic merit has happened of late, unless you count decorating the hall.
